The Origin Story
I did everything
right.
It almost ruined me.
The itch started early. Lemonade stand as a kid. My parents owned a business, so watching someone build something felt normal to me. Natural, even.
In college I opened a kiosk in the mall. Spent about a hundred hours a week staring at empty hallways. Painted houses on the side — and on more than one occasion showed up to a finished job and realized I'd painted the house the wrong color.
In law school, while everyone else was studying case law, I was flipping cell phones on eBay and Craigslist. Made enough to pay for Jackie's engagement ring and our honeymoon.
I wasn't hustling because I was broke. I was hustling because I couldn't turn it off.
So I did what everyone told me to do with that kind of energy. I channeled it into credentials. Law school. MBA. A Big Four accounting job. A clerkship with a judge. About six months in, I couldn't help myself. I started a law practice on the side.
And while I was building that, I tried a grilled cheese food truck. Failed. Designed a board game called Socialism — a tongue-in-cheek spin on Monopoly. Nobody bought it. I wasn't looking for an exit. I was looking for more. More creativity. More ownership. More proof that the itch meant something.
Then one afternoon I stood in front of a room full of business owners and sold $35,000 in a single event.
The same amount I'd made in an entire year out of law school.

My wife Jackie is a CPA and the most dangerous business mind I know. She's been in every foxhole with me — from the cell phones I flipped on eBay in law school to fund her engagement ring, to every business we've built since. When people ask how we've pulled this off, the honest answer is Jackie.
We have kids who keep us honest and a life we designed on purpose instead of stumbling into.
Every few months I disappear down a new rabbit hole. Hemingway. Elvis. Woodworking. Pool chemistry. AI. Aviation. I love understanding how things work — really work, underneath the surface — and once I've satisfied my curiosity I'm usually already chasing the next one.
